Chapter: Proverbs 26 | Verse: Proverbs 18:21
Sticks and stones may break bones—but words can do worse. Scripture doesn’t flatter us here: your mouth holds the power to heal or to harm. To give life—or to destroy it.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” — Proverbs 18:21, LSB
Proverbs 26 is sharp-edged. It warns against fools, gossips, slanderers, and flatterers. Then Proverbs 18:21 delivers the core truth: your words have weight—and they leave a wake.
Every careless insult, every whispered lie, every unkind post—it all bears fruit. And so does every word of encouragement, every spoken truth, every gentle correction.
God created the world with words. Jesus is called the Word. And we, made in His image, are called to speak with purpose.
Words don’t just fill silence. They shape lives.
Are your words building or breaking lately?
- Choose one person today to encourage—specifically and sincerely.
- Pause before speaking. Ask: “Will this bring life or death?”
- Let Proverbs 18:21 be your daily speech filter.
We can’t walk with God and talk like the world. On Walking with God, we’re learning how to use our words to glorify Him, strengthen others, and speak wisdom into a noisy culture.
Closing Prayer
Lord, tame my tongue. Make my words reflect Your heart—and bear fruit that lasts.
