Inspecting the Ruins at Midnight

Inspecting the Ruins at Midnight

Chapter: Nehemiah 2 | Verse: Nehemiah 2:11–16

“So I went out at night by the Valley Gate… and I was inspecting the walls of Jerusalem which were broken down…”

— Nehemiah 2:13 LSB

Some of the most important leadership decisions happen when no one’s watching. Sometimes, the only light you get is moonlight—and the only strategy is obedience in the dark.

Nehemiah doesn’t arrive in Jerusalem with fanfare. He doesn’t launch a rally or announce a plan. Instead, he quietly surveys the damage.

He walks the ruins. Feels the stones. Sees the devastation. This isn’t pessimism—it’s preparation. Before you can rebuild, you have to know the damage.

Leaders don’t rush. They watch. They listen. They walk the rubble at midnight.

What broken places has God called you to walk through quietly? Don’t rush to announce what you haven’t yet understood. Be still. Be present. Let God show you what needs rebuilding.

This is what Walking with God is all about—spiritual leadership that’s slow enough to listen, humble enough to kneel, and bold enough to act. Not hype. Holiness. Not platform. Presence.

Closing Prayer

Father, teach me to walk in the dark with faith. Help me see what You see—so I can rebuild what matters.
