Chapter: Nehemiah 4 | Verse: Nehemiah 4:1–6
“But it happened that when Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became furious and very angry and mocked the Jews.”
— Nehemiah 4:1 LSB
Step out in obedience, and the critics won’t be far behind. If you’re not ready for opposition, you’re not ready to build. God’s call will attract mockery before it draws momentum.
The moment the work begins, the resistance ramps up. Sanballat and Tobiah unleash mockery: “Even a fox could knock down that wall!” They ridicule, belittle, and scorn the builders.
But Nehemiah doesn’t clap back. He prays—and he builds. He brings the insults before God, and then he strengthens the people’s hands for the task.
God’s work doesn’t stop because of hecklers.
When you obey God, expect mockery. The enemy uses sarcasm to stir self-doubt. But don’t quit. Take your hurt to God—and keep building.
This is what discipleship often feels like—progress through pressure. Walking with God is about learning to move forward in faith, even when the noise gets loud.
Closing Prayer
Father, when the enemy mocks, give me focus. Help me hear Your voice louder than theirs.
