Pride Is a Terrible Business Partner

Chapter: Proverbs 12 | Verse: Proverbs 16:18

Pride always talks big—and crashes hard. It overestimates your ability, underestimates your need for God, and guarantees a fall. If you want wisdom, ditch your ego at the door.

“Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.” — Proverbs 16:18, LSB

Proverbs 12 is filled with contrast: wise vs. foolish, diligent vs. lazy, truthful vs. deceptive. And Proverbs 16:18 hangs like a warning label over all of it: pride destroys everything it touches.

Pride doesn’t just ruin reputations. It ruins discernment. It blinds you to danger, isolates you from help, and poisons your decisions.

Humility, by contrast, makes room for wisdom. For correction. For dependence on God. It’s not weakness—it’s clarity.

Solomon says if you want to stand—you’d better kneel first.

Where is pride hiding in your plans or relationships?

  • Ask God to reveal where self-sufficiency has replaced dependence.
  • Confess it. Replace it with gratitude and humility.
  • Memorize Proverbs 16:18—and write it where you’ll see it.

We’re learning in every episode of Walking with God that pride isn’t just a personal problem—it’s a discipleship killer. Lay it down. Pick up the yoke of Christ. Let’s walk humbly, together.

Closing Prayer

God, strip away my pride and teach me to walk low, slow, and dependent on You.
