A Wise Leader Welcomes Feedback

Chapter: Proverbs 10 | Verse: Proverbs 9:8–9

Criticism stings. But for the wise, it also sharpens. The question isn’t whether someone will correct you—it’s whether you’ll grow from it. Fools fight back. The wise lean in.

“Do not reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you, Reprove a wise man and he will love you. Give to a wise man and he will become still wiser; Make known to a righteous man and he will increase in learning.” — Proverbs 9:8–9, LSB

If you want to know whether someone is wise—watch how they respond to correction.

Proverbs 10 echoes this: the wise receive commandments, but the babbling fool comes to ruin. It’s not your IQ that proves wisdom. It’s your teachability.

Leaders often rise because of talent. But they stay effective through humility. The ones who last are the ones who welcome feedback like gold—because they know growth requires refinement.

Scripture doesn’t flatter us here. It challenges us: how do you handle being wrong? Correction is not rejection. It’s God’s way of growing us up.

How do you respond when someone offers correction?

  • Reflect on the last piece of hard feedback you received—how did you respond?
  • Invite someone you trust to speak truth into your blind spots.
  • Memorize Proverbs 9:9 as a wisdom anchor.

We’re building a community of disciples who walk in truth—even when it’s uncomfortable. On Walking with God, we lean into Scripture’s correction, not away from it. Come walk with us.

Closing Prayer

Lord, give me a heart that welcomes wisdom—even when it wounds. Make me more like You through correction.
